Kubuntu Linux

After my Nth crash of Windows XP and the release of Vista I decided that it was time to rediscover Linux. Previously I had tried Fedora 3 and Suse; both major Linux distributions. Unfortunately I was unable to get all the components of my computer to work. I did not really understand how to compile programs and was actually quite intimidated by the act of compiling a program from source code. To me, it felt like I had just left my comfortable crime ridden XP neighborhood and moved to safe, secure industrial area where I was my worst enemy. Then, in late 2006 I got the Linux itch and discovered Kubuntu

Kubuntu comes as a "Live CD". This allowed me to try without installing. As it turned out Kubuntu recognised every component of my laptop. Five minutes later I was gleefully installing my new operating system; tweaking as I learned. I discovered Kubuntu to be a "friendly" system with a huge support base. Programs were easy to install and the learning curve was not too steep. After reading the documentation I became comfortable with terminal and compiling programs from source (when necessary) was not that intimidating after all. Everything changed with Kubuntu.

The contents of this part of the site is really a record of my adventures with Kubuntu Linux.
